Cape Shirahama

Scene 11

So then: the cellar in the sea.

At least that was not too difficult to locate. East of the lighthouse that loomed over the cape of Shirahama, the sea had apparently conquered a piece of land, on which there had once stood buildings: probably military installations given the location, perhaps a bunker with artillery aimed at preventing enemy ships from entering the Uraga canal and, via it, the bay of Tokyo. One of the structures had held a cellar, the surface of which was now so smothered with glistening algae that it looked almost like a natural grotto.
