Under the shower he held his breath, he was quite sure that the waters of Jerusalem would do more than merely cleanse his body. Could it be that a false «I» within him was being rinsed out? It seemed to him as though with every drop he was taking in something that could transform him. Was it something healing? Something sacred? Or just an overdose of chlorine? As he emerged from the spray of rain, he felt a pang of disappointment at finding no divine aura around his head, at the fact that he was no cleaner than after any shower, and that he smelled of not holy water but of cheap hotel soap – that something godly could smell of hotel soap only the Protestants would believe.
