Jerusalem, Garden Tomb

Scene 8

Was he on the verge of a metamorphosis? Was something going on with him? In him? Did he belong to something here? The fact that there was an antique wine press near the entrance to the cave, which many – perhaps with some right – consider to be the grave of Jesus, reminded him of his earlier unflinching belief that the only thing that could be sacred on his earth was red wine.

As a child he had, however, thought otherwise – after reading a story about Saint George in a particularly colourful picture-book, he had imagined that he could well lead the life of a holy man. Kill a couple of dragons and then be revered by all. Perhaps he had actually even received his own chapel – maybe in Uplistsikhe, the lord's fortress in the holy land of Georgia.
