Observations

On land there is always a light that is directed on our deeds. Every day wishes to be duly armed with its meaning and its purpose. But the water has no qualms over splitting up this ray into a thousand glittering flickers. Does one so suddenly see the facets of time? Is that the origin of the thought that there is little difference between doing and not doing? Or, is it the endless flow of water that influences and channels our own emotions?

The unceasing activity of the small waves gives me the freedom, or so it seems, to do nothing in particular, to let the day simply be carried along like a swimmer’s body, on which hangs neither an anchor nor a fishing line. I gaze at the wrinkling game of the water surface, this facial expression, which means everything at the same time, and I imagine that the body of water strains itself so much for me that it is in my service.

Oskar also seems very quiet – whereupon I ask myself if, in ant life, there is a distinction between the extraordinary and the ordinary.
