In these villages there is no electricity – and when darkness falls it becomes really dark. There is also no telephone connection – and when someone leaves the place he is truly gone. The only water that flows here comes from the heavens – and when it does not rain one actually sits on the dry earth. There is also no money – and if the yams don’t grow well then one goes absolutely hungry. Does civilisation in the western sense mean that one shakes up the facts, that one puts one over on light, earth, water, and hunger – and life becomes real only when death arrives?
