This was certainly not the correct moment to do so. For, Odette was peeved. She felt he did not take her seriously, she had written to him in a terse little email, and informed him that she was therefore soon going to leave the island. Those few words from his lady-love had been sufficient to send Samson Godet into a tizzy. He had dropped all official business and tried to phone Odette right away. When he could not reach her, he had sat down at his desk and written her a ten-page email declaring his affection for her and detailing its various facets, while also highlighting the various aspects of her personality that he found fascinating. However, there were so many details that he lost perspective on his emotions, which led him to delete all that he had written. In the end, he sent an equally brief note, suggesting that they should discuss the matter immediately.
