Scene 14: A man called Bison

How Hektor Maille was, like an Indian hunter, totally invisible under the buffalo: something that would have been neither possible nor required under the cows of Transylvania.

One Day in the Life of Odette Sissay

13.00: Port-Louis, Vieux Port, Aquarium

Inside it was dark and quiet. At this hour few visited the aquarium. The fish moved like colourful paint-strokes through the blue-ish glow of the glass tanks. Odette could not understand how anyone could find such a place poetic; ultimately it was nothing more than a large prison. When she saw the creatures mindlessly swimming hither and thither she asked herself whether the fish looked as aimless in the ocean as they looked here. There was nothing that appeared to Odette to be as indifferent as a fish in an aquarium – uninvolved in everything, even in itself. Only the jellyfish appealed to her, perhaps because they had no eyes with which they could goggle at the world.
